Sunday Start: 06/04

Salaam!

I hope everyone’s Sunday is going great so far. Right now I am heading to Knoxville, Tennessee for my internship training for The Children’s Defense Fund (CDF). This is my second summer working with CDF: Freedom Schools and I must say what an amazing experience and opportunity this continues to be. I am an educator for the youth and a mentor for the kids in my community. This summer I plan on empowering, uplifting and helping children succeed in everyday life. I want to share with you a few photos that I took in the house of Alex Haley, if you do not know who Alex Haley is research him, research please!

The person that makes it all worth while, the driving force behind the Children’s Defense Fund, Marian Wright Edelman. She is definitely a women of hope and most certainly one of the most prominent African-Americans that continues to make a difference in this nation one soul at a time.

Here are a few pics of some of the most influential African-American women of our time! If you know the works of these beautiful souls then you will understand my excitement of just taking a picture of a picture. I was in complete awe, at the amazing-ness of each of these women and the works that they have done throughout their lifetime, from Toni Morrison The Bluest Eye, Alice Walker The Color Purple and Mae C. Jemison the first African-American woman to explore space in 1992. How amazing is it to know that if these wonderful women can change the world one page at time, one poem at time, one soul at time, then I can too! You can too! Just believe you can do it and it will happen for you, it certainly happened for them. Through perseverance and dedication these women have changed the face of our nation.
